Crydom Solid State Relays (SSRs) are used in the refrigeration industry in a wide variety of applications. Since Crydom SSRs do not have mechanical contacts, the arcing, pitting, and the short product life associated with electromechanical relays is eliminated.

Beside the obvious use to handle large inrush surges seen during compressor starting, Crydom SSRs are used to switch condensing fans, evaporator blowers, reheating resistance grids for sophisticated temperature/humidity systems, and damper motors and valves.

In commercial/industrial freezers, Crydom SSR’s are used to control condensation on doors and seals by switching integral heating elements when needed. In the low voltage control end of refrigeration systems, PCB mount and SIP versions of both AC and DC output Crydom SSR’s are commonly used.

The recent introduction of the Crydom MCTC series of temperature controllers eliminated the need to have a separate control and power relay. This all in one solution includes both a controller and a Crydom SSR in one package, with up to 90 amp capacity at 530 Vac. In addition, when the Crydom MCTC is specified with the refrigeration output option, a built-in short-cycle delay protects compressors without the need for an additional external time-delay relay.
